Employee Relations Manager - Cambridge (Hybrid) - Initial 3 months

Lorien's Public Sector team is currently supporting the search for an experienced Employee Relations Manager.

This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional with a strong Employee Relations background to support senior leaders across a wide range of complex workforce matters.

The role is initially fully onsite in Cambridge before moving to a hybrid working arrangement.

This is an Inside IR35 contract for an initial 3-month term, with likely extensions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert Employee Relations advice and guidance on complex HR casework
  • Manage disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence management and performance-related cases
  • Support and guide managers through investigations, hearings and appeals
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation, policies and HR best practice
  • Advise senior stakeholders on complex and sensitive workforce matters
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with managers, employee representatives and trade unions
  • Support organisational change and workforce transformation initiatives
  • Deliver HR training, coaching and development sessions for managers
  • Contribute to policy development, review and implementation
  • Monitor and assess risks associated with employee relations cases, escalating where appropriate
  • Produce reports, management information and workforce data analysis to support decision-making
  • Promote a positive employee relations culture across the organisation

Key Skills & Experience

  • Significant Employee Relations experience within a complex organisation
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and its practical application
  • Experience managing complex disciplinary, grievance, sickness absence and capability cases
  • CIPD qualified or equivalent HR experience
  • Experience advising senior managers and stakeholders on workforce matters
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to manage a varied and demanding caseload independently
  • Strong report writing, investigation and case management experience
  • Experience designing and delivering management training
  • Ability to work autonomously whilst contributing to a wider HR function
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise competing demands

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience within healthcare, public sector or other highly regulated environments
  • Experience working within unionised organisations
  • Knowledge of complex terms and conditions frameworks
  • Experience supporting organisational change and transformation programmes
  • Exposure to job evaluation, workforce planning or workforce transformation initiatives
  • Experience working within large, multi-site organisations
