Location: Plymouth (PL4)
Assignment: Temporary (July 2026 – January 2027, subject to departmental needs). with potential for extension or further opportunities, although this cannot be guaranteed.
Hours: 37 hours per week
Pay Rate: £15.56 per hour
Closing Date: 31/07/2026
Requirement: Full UK driving licence essential
Interviews: Face-to-face interviews will be held at Prince Rock Depot. Immediate start available.

Pertemps are recruiting on behalf of our client for a Community Engagement Officer to support the rollout of Plymouth's new Food Waste Collection Programme.

This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in a high-profile environmental initiative, helping residents understand and engage with an important new service. If you enjoy meeting people, organising events, building relationships in the community, and delivering excellent customer service, we'd love to hear from you.

You'll play a key role in raising awareness, attending community events, resolving queries, and encouraging residents to get involved in making Plymouth a cleaner and greener city.

Whilst initially offered on a temporary basis until January 2027, there may be an opportunity for the role to become permanent, subject to business needs.

What You'll Be Doing

Engaging with Residents – Visiting households and speaking with residents about the new food waste service, answering questions and providing guidance.
Community Outreach – Representing the programme at community events, local groups, and public engagement activities.
Event Planning & Delivery – Supporting and coordinating campaigns, roadshows, environmental initiatives, and community events.
Customer Support – Acting as a friendly and professional point of contact, helping residents with enquiries and resolving issues.
Partnership Working – Building positive relationships with councillors, community organisations, volunteer groups, and external stakeholders.
Project Support – Assisting with the delivery of engagement campaigns, monitoring participation levels, and identifying opportunities to improve resident involvement.
Monitoring & Reporting – Maintaining accurate records, completing site visits, tracking feedback, and reporting outcomes.
Community Campaigns – Helping to promote environmental awareness through creative engagement activities and local initiatives.
Operational Coordination – Supporting wider team activities and ensuring community engagement activities run smoothly and effectively.
What We're Looking For

Experience in customer service, community engagement, events, outreach, or public-facing roles
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Confidence speaking with a wide variety of people and audiences
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
A proactive and positive approach to problem-solving
Knowledge of Health & Safety and risk assessment principles
GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
Full UK driving licenceDesirable

Experience working within a local authority or public sector environment
Experience planning or supporting community events
Supervisory or volunteer management experience
Experience securing external funding or grants
