We are currently seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join our clients project team on a major Data Centre project, near Blyth, United Kingdom. This will be the largest Data Centre of its kind in Europe!

The Commercial Manager role is pivotal to ensuring the commercial success of projects and the overall business. The successful candidate will play an important role in overseeing the financial management of projects, ensuring they are delivered within budget and through the development and management of impactful financial reporting to set and measure key performance. Key to success in the role will be the ability to work across the business with internal stakeholders to deliver on business objectives.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work independently on complex technical issues, conflict management and resolution using a combination of technical ability, leadership, teamwork and people management skills.

Reporting to the Regional Commercial Manager your role will be to lead the commercial management of a key high value data centre project.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and manage the commercial team to operate within with a fast-paced construction environment, with high levels of performance, commercial awareness and accountability
Ensure that robust cost control measures are implemented
Prepare and present impactful commercial information to senior leaders with a particular focus on monthly cost reports, cash flows and other reports critical for commercial and financial management
Formulate and implement project procurement planning to deliver within project timelines, scope and budgetary requirements
Actively drive knowledge sharing from Pre-Construction through to the project commercial and other key team members to ensure full understanding of tender scope, budgets, prelims and procurement approaches
Develop and maintain appropriate relationships with key members of our client team and supply chain
Ensure that commercial documentation is professionally executed and maintained
Closely monitor project risks and opportunities with project colleagues
Proactive identification and management of commercial challenges
Due diligence on all new sub-contractors and suppliers and standardisation of all Sub-Contractor appointments, including overview of workload and capacity prior to appointment
Ensure subcontract and purchase order documentation is appropriate, comprehensive and protects Winthrop's interests
Ensure payment valuation, certification and cash collection from our client is managed in accordance with the contract
Ensure efficient payment certification and invoicing in accordance with Winthrop's contractual obligations across our supply chain

Requirements

Quantity Surveying or similar degree, typically with 10+ years relevant experience.
Strong written and oral communication skills
Excellent numeracy and problem solving abilities
Main Contractor experience
Strong knowledge of MEP is advantageous
Experience of a variety of procurement routes varying from lump sum, remeasure, 2 stage / open book tendering, design-build
Data centre experience is advantageous.
