Introduction for Health & Safety Manager
Industrial Connected Talent is supporting an established international manufacturing group in the search for an experienced Health & Safety Manager.
This is a hands-on, multi-site role responsible for leading and improving health and safety performance across three UK manufacturing facilities. The successful candidate will ideally be based around Greater Manchester and must be comfortable travelling regularly to sites in Wigan, Scunthorpe and Epping.
Responsibilities for Health & Safety Manager
As Health & Safety Manager, you will develop and improve health and safety systems while embedding a proactive safety culture across the division. You will work closely with operational teams, managers and shop-floor employees to improve standards, manage risk and ensure compliance.
• Develop and continuously improve Health & Safety Management Systems
• Conduct site audits, inspections, risk assessments and performance reviews
• Lead investigations into accidents, injuries and significant near misses
• Provide practical guidance on machine safety, guarding and LOTO/LOTOTO
• Develop safe systems of work, corrective actions and improvement plans
• Deliver inductions, toolbox talks and safety awareness training
• Coach managers and employees to improve working practices and accountability
• Monitor performance and report progress to senior management
Requirements for Health & Safety Manager
The ideal candidate will have proven health and safety experience within manufacturing, engineering, packaging, FMCG or another machinery-based environment. You should be practical, confident working independently and comfortable engaging directly with shop-floor teams across multiple sites.
• NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Level 3 qualification
• Health and safety experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment
• Practical knowledge of machine safety, guarding and LOTO/LOTOTO procedures
• Experience developing Health & Safety Management Systems
• Experience conducting audits, risk assessments and incident investigations
• Strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation
• Confident communication, training and stakeholder-management skills
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly between sites
Desirable Experience for Health & Safety Manager
• NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 6 or equivalent advanced qualification
• Technical IOSH membership or working towards membership
• Previous responsibility for multiple manufacturing sites
• Experience leading safety-culture improvement programmes
• Background within packaging, paper, converting or process manufacturing
