HGV Workshop Manager Location: Derby
Salary: £52,000 + 5% Annual Performance Bonus
The Opportunity An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced HGV Workshop Manager to join a busy and well-established fleet operation based in Derby.
We are looking for a hands-on leader with strong commercial vehicle maintenance experience who can effectively manage workshop operations, lead a team of technicians, and ensure maximum fleet availability through high-quality maintenance and repair standards.
This role would suit an experienced Workshop Manager, HGV Chargehand, Senior HGV Technician, Workshop Controller or Fleet Maintenance Supervisor looking to take the next step in their career.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the day-to-day operation of a busy HGV workshop.
Lead, motivate and develop a team of HGV Technicians and apprentices.
Plan and allocate workloads to maximise workshop productivity and vehicle uptime.
Ensure all servicing, inspections, repairs and MOT preparation work is completed to manufacturer and DVSA standards.
Monitor workshop performance, labour utilisation and efficiency.
Oversee quality control procedures and conduct final vehicle inspections.
Manage workshop health & safety and ensure compliance with company policies.
Control parts ordering, workshop consumables and stock levels.
Liaise with drivers, transport teams and external suppliers to minimise vehicle downtime.
Ensure accurate completion of maintenance records and compliance documentation.
Support continuous improvement initiatives across the workshop.
Assist with recruitment, training and performance management of workshop staff.Candidate Requirements
Previous experience managing an HGV or commercial vehicle workshop.
Qualified HGV Technician (Level 3 NVQ/City & Guilds or equivalent).
Strong knowledge of HGV maintenance, diagnostics and DVSA compliance.
Experience supervising and developing workshop teams.
Excellent planning, organisation and leadership skills.
Strong communication and customer service abilities.
Experience using workshop management or fleet maintenance systems.
