About the Role

Are you a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated individual with a strong passion for Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Tradewind Recruitment is proud to partner with a renowned, purpose-built SEN specialist school in Whitehaven to recruit a SEN Teaching Assistant for the complete 2026/2027 academic year.

This role involves supporting children and young people who have severe, profound, and complex learning difficulties, sensory needs, or physical disabilities. Working as part of a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team, you will help create a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment where pupils can build independence, communication skills, and reach their personal achievements.

Key Responsibilities

Supporting pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis across structured learning, creative activities, and social times.

Assisting with sensory development, communication programmes (such as PECS or Makaton), and personal care needs where required.

Implementing tailored individual education and healthcare plans under the guidance of class teachers and SEN specialists.

Helping foster a calm, encouraging atmosphere and supporting positive behaviour strategies.

Tracking student engagement and progress to provide valuable feedback to the SENCO and teaching staff.

What We Are Looking For

Prior experience supporting children, young adults, or vulnerable individuals with SEN or complex needs (in school, care, or support settings).

A patient, empathetic, and adaptable nature with strong emotional resilience.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Willingness to assist with personal care and physical support routines if needed.

An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to process one).
