SEND Specialist Tutor (SEMH & Complex Needs - Year 9)
The Opportunity
We are looking for a patient, adaptable tutor who can deliver engaging, personalised sessions that focus on rebuilding confidence, encouraging engagement with learning, and supporting the student's emotional wellbeing. The emphasis is on creating a safe, supportive environment where the student can make positive progress both academically and personally.
Tuition will be delivered on a 1:1 basis for 15 hours per week, ideally during school hours. You will also complete weekly progress reports to monitor engagement, wellbeing, and development.
Contract/Position Details:
Location - Whickham
Position - SEND Specialist Tutor (SEMH & Complex Needs)
Type of work - Contract
Start date - ASAP
Setting - Students home or local community setting (e.g. learning hub/library)
Duration - Ongoing, until a suitable school placement is secured
Contract type - Temporary
Hours - 15 hours per week
Rate of pay - up to GBP30 per hour (negotiable)
Your role with us:
Build a positive and trusting relationship to support engagement in learning
Deliver tailored, engagement-focused sessions that meet the needs of a Year 11 learner
Support the students SEMH development, helping them regulate emotions and build resilience
Provide guidance and structure during a key stage in their education and transition planning
Promote confidence, independence, and life skills through structured activities
Create a calm, consistent, and safe learning environment
Monitor and assess progress, providing clear feedback to families and professionals
Maintain accurate records of attendance and complete weekly reports
Experience, Training and Qualifications of the SEND Specialist Tutor:
Children-related or Education-based qualification
Experience working with students with complex SEND and SEMH needs
Background in teaching, tutoring, or support work
Patient, resilient, and creative approach to learning
Ability to think outside the box and adapt sessions to maintain engagement
To be eligible for this role, the SEND Specialist Tutor must:
Hold the right to work in the UK
Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
Be able to provide references covering the last two years
