Senior Quantity Surveyor Opportunity with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA), Supporting Sizewell C
As part of the CWA (Civil Works Alliance), you will support the building of Sizewell C. Sizewell C will be a 3.2-gigawatt power station generating low-carbon electricity for around 6 million homes and will play a key role in our energy future, supplying reliable, clean electricity for at least 60 years. This role will be within the CWA Wide Section.
What will you do?
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will deliver commercial leadership and strategic support to the ASTOC Commercial Lead, driving robust commercial controls, governance assurance, and continuous improvement across the ASTOC portfolio. Managing approximately £200m per year of staff and professional services expenditure, this senior role will play a critical part in ensuring accuracy, transparency, and consistency of commercial data, whilst supporting informed decision-making and strong commercial performance across the Alliance.
Key responsibilities will include:
Leading the commercial management and administration of Professional Services Contracts (PSCs) across ASTOC, ensuring robust contractual governance
Ensuring full compliance with commercial governance requirements and delegated authority frameworks
Managing and reviewing liabilities, commitments, and commercial obligations across the portfolio
Leading ASTOC allowance reviews and conducting comprehensive commercial assessments
Supporting commercial approvals, applications, and funding processes with commercial expertise
Providing commercial insurance across ASTOC activities and expenditure
Developing, implementing, and improving AFP commercial processes and controls to enhance efficiency
Maintaining effective stakeholder relationships across Commercial, Finance, Delivery, and Client teams
Supporting internal and external audits whilst ensuring appropriate commercial records and documentation
Identifying and mitigating commercial risks and governance issues
Leading strategic commercial initiatives and driving continuous improvement activities
Deputising for the ASTOC Commercial Lead as required
What are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will be an experienced commercial professional with a track record of delivering commercial leadership within complex, large-scale environments. You will bring extensive knowledge of contract administration, governance frameworks, and commercial best practice, combined with strong influencing skills and the ability to drive strategic improvements.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Degree qualification or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related discipline
Extensive commercial management experience within major projects or infrastructure programs
Strong understanding of NEC and professional services contract administration
Proven experience managing governance, compliance, and commercial assurance processes
Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills with the ability to engage across multiple levels
Demonstrable experience managing liabilities, forecasts, and commercial reporting
Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to lead and mentor others
Proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Office, and commercial management systems
Strategic thinking with a focus on process improvement and operational excellence
Proven ability to identify commercial risks and develop effective mitigation strategies
Desirable Qualifications and Experience:
Chartered status or working towards MRICS, MCICES, or equivalent
Experience within the nuclear, energy, or major infrastructure sector
Knowledge of Unifier and alliance-based commercial environments
Experience working within alliance or collaborative contract models
Exposure to earned value management or performance measurement frameworks
Experience supporting strategic commercial initiatives and transformation activities
