Job Profile for Graduate Mechanical Engineer
Position: Graduate Mechanical Engineer
Location: Newquay, Cornwall
Salary: Around £30,000 - Dependent on Experience
We are currently recruiting for a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join a small, well-established engineering business based in Newquay. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated graduate to join a close-knit team of approximately 12 employees, supporting the design and manufacturing of bespoke engineering solutions for a range of customers.
The successful candidate will be responsible for producing detailed engineering drawings, supporting design projects and assisting with the development of mechanical solutions from concept through to manufacture. The role will involve using SolidWorks to create 3D models and technical drawings, alongside supporting wider engineering and business activities.
This position would suit a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate or an individual with a relevant engineering qualification looking to develop their career within a hands-on engineering environment.
Job Overview
● Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks
● Produce technical drawings and design documentation to support manufacturing requirements
● Assist with the design and development of mechanical components and assemblies
● Interpret engineering requirements and convert concepts into practical designs
● Update and modify existing drawings and design files where required
● Support the engineering team with design improvements and problem-solving activities
● Liaise with internal teams to ensure designs are suitable for manufacture
● Assist with material selection and engineering solutions
● Support purchasing activities, including sourcing and ordering materials when required
● Assist with preparing quotations and providing technical information for customer enquiries
● Support job management activities, helping to coordinate projects from design through to completion
● Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation
● Work effectively both independently and as part of a small engineering team
● Maintain a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail across all design work
Requirements
● Degree or HNC/HND qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
● Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software is highly desirable
● Strong understanding of engineering drawings and technical documentation
● Good knowledge of mechanical design principles
● Ability to produce accurate technical drawings and models
● Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
● Good communication skills and the ability to work within a small engineering team
● Willingness to support wider engineering and business activities when required
● Full right to work in the UK
Hours of Work
● Monday - Friday: 08:00 - 16:30
