Why Apply?

This is a rare opportunity to join a growing technology business at a pivotal stage in its journey. As the first Senior Data Engineer in the business, you'll have the chance to shape the foundations of its data capability, influence technical decisions from day one, and play a key role in how data engineering evolves as the company continues to grow.

You'll remain hands on, designing and building modern cloud-based data platforms, developing scalable pipelines, and delivering solutions that enable better decision-making across a variety of projects. More importantly, you'll be joining at the start of an exciting growth journey, giving you the opportunity to expand your responsibilities, help build the data function, and accelerate your own career as the business scales.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and deliver scalable cloud-based data platforms and data engineering solutions.
  • Develop robust, high-performance data pipelines and modern ETL/ELT frameworks.
  • Contribute to the architecture and technical design of secure, scalable, and resilient data platforms.
  • Build and optimise cloud-native data solutions across Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • Work closely with software engineers, architects, and product teams to deliver complex technical solutions.
  • Design and implement data models and storage solutions that support high-performance analytics and operational workloads.
  • Optimise data platform performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Champion engineering best practices across code quality, automation, testing, security, and CI/CD.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and drive continuous improvements across data platforms.
  • Stay current with emerging cloud technologies and contribute to technical innovation across the business.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience designing and delivering cloud-native data engineering solutions.
  • Strong expertise with Azure (Data Factory, Synapse), AWS (Redshift, Glue), or GCP (BigQuery, Dataflow).
  • Experience contributing to cloud data architecture and technical solution design.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Scala, or Java.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including optimisation and performance tuning.
  • Experience building modern ETL/ELT pipelines and distributed data processing solutions.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing, data modelling, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience working with Infrastructure as Code, DevOps, or CI/CD practices would be advantageous.
  • A genuine curiosity in AI, and a desire to help shape how they can be adopted within modern cloud data solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to deliver robust, scalable technical solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What's in it for me?

  • The opportunity to join at an exciting stage of growth and genuinely influence the future of the data capability.
  • Exposure to a wide variety of projects using modern cloud technologies, AI and architecture.
  • Ongoing professional development and clear opportunities for long-term career progression.
  • A collaborative, supportive environment where your ideas and technical expertise will make a real impact.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of race, sex, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, or age.
