About the Opportunity

We're looking for a Security cleared Technical Scrum Master who combines Agile delivery expertise with strong technical knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and AWS.

This is not a traditional Scrum Master position. You'll work alongside engineering teams, providing technical leadership while driving Agile delivery. You'll be comfortable discussing architecture, reviewing code, challenging technical decisions, and helping teams deliver secure, high-quality cloud-native applications.

What You'll Be Doing

Agile Delivery

• Lead Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Drive predictable sprint delivery across software engineering and DevOps initiatives.
• Manage risks, dependencies, and delivery commitments alongside Technical Delivery Managers and Product Owners.
• Foster continuous improvement and Agile best practices across the team.

Technical Leadership

• Review and challenge Java and Spring Boot microservices implementations.
• Guide engineering teams on clean code, scalability, security, and performance best practices.
• Influence technical decisions, design patterns, and implementation approaches.
• Partner with Architects to ensure solutions align with AWS cloud-native principles.
• Drive improvements in code quality, testing, and technical standards.

DevOps & Cloud Engineering

• Support CI/CD pipeline optimisation and deployment automation.
• Champion DevSecOps practices, automated testing, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Improve application observability through logging, monitoring, and alerting.
• Support production issue investigations and root cause analysis.

Team Leadership

• Provide technical guidance to developers and QA engineers.
• Ensure teams maintain high standards of quality and engineering excellence.
• Support backlog refinement with a focus on technical priorities and dependencies.
• Track delivery performance using engineering metrics and DORA metrics.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot Microservices.
• Ability to read, review, and challenge Java code.
• Proven experience leading Agile delivery as a Scrum Master within engineering teams.
• Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices-based applications.
• Strong AWS experience including:
  • EC2
  • Lambda
  • S3
  • IAM
  • CloudWatch
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
• Containerisation experience using Docker and ECS/EKS.
• Strong understanding of testing strategies for distributed microservices.
• Experience working within regulated or secure environments.
• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Scrum Master in cloud or DevOps environments.
