Role: Train Manager Competency Assessor
Location: Banbury
Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract (12 months)
Salary: Up to £48,000 per annum

Purpose of the role
To ensure operational and health and safety requirements are delivered, leading the competency, performance, and customer service activities for Contingent Train Managers.

You will have accountability for people management, team welfare and leading competency delivery for our Contingent Train Managers in line with the company’s competence management system.

This includes:

- Operational competency and safety of Contingent Train Managers through planning, managing, and undertaking all assessment activities for Contingent Train Managers
- Investigating incidents where required in line with company standards
- Developing and undertaking safety briefings and training where required
- Planning and managing availability of Contingent Train Managers
- Developing, producing, and presenting reports to the wider business around Contingent Train Manager competency

Applying a flexible approach, you will lead and manage the Contingent Train Manager team to deliver operational safety and an exceptional customer experience.

Key Accountabilities

- Responsible for the day to day management and planning of all Contingent Train Manager activity
- Responsible for ensuring that all Contingent Train Managers trained to perform operational roles are competent, with appropriate traction and route knowledge where applicable
- Ensure that security requirements are met with regards to Contingent Train Manager activity
- Undertake incident investigations as required for Contingent Train Managers
- Compile, collate and present reports as required
- Regularly monitor compliance with operational and accountancy standards
- Effective liaison with Chiltern Railways operational department to ensure delivery of agreed standards of operation
- Plan and deliver regular update briefings for Contingent Train Managers
- Ensure rostering of Contingent Train Managers is within fatigue management requirements and competency thresholds
- Manage CTM resourcing levels in line with business requirements
- To assist and support with the performance, welfare and development of Contingent Train Managers
- Assist as directed where reasonable and safe to do

Essential Skills

- Train Manager/Guard competence with a minimum of 2 years’ experience
- Experience of managing within an operational, customer focused environment
- Experience of assessing and developing staff through coaching and engagement
- Experience of delivering core KPI targets
- Good communicating and interpersonal skills
- Able to assess different situations and act accordingly
- Good Problem-Solving Skills
- Able to work in a calm and efficient manner under pressure
- Passionate about providing good customer service
- Flexible approach to working conditions
- Able to manage conflict and contentious issues
- To be able to interpret health and safety processes effectively
- Ability to think of innovative solutions
- Proactive and responsive to constant change
- Demonstrate high standards of behaviour and attitude
- Self-motivated and enthusiastic worker
- Motivated to accept and comply with high standards and instructionsTo be smart and presentable always
- Adhere to Company Policies and Procedures

Desirable Skills

- Recognised Management Qualification
- A1 Assessor Qualifications
- Experience of managing large numbers of people
- A good understanding of Railway operations
- Understanding of Rail Geography
