COMPANY DESCRIPTION, PROFILE AND SCOPE OF ROLE
Are you a recent engineering graduate with a passion for design, innovation, and problem-solving? Do you enjoy turning ideas into practical engineering solutions? If you're looking to kick-start your career in mechanical design and automation, we want to hear from you.
On behalf of our client, a rapidly growing and highly innovative automation systems integrator, we are looking for an ambitious Graduate / Junior Design Engineer to join an expanding engineering team. Our client specialises in designing and delivering bespoke automation solutions that help manufacturers across a wide range of industries improve productivity, quality, and efficiency.
This is an exceptional opportunity to jumpstart your career by working alongside experienced industry experts. As a Graduate / Junior Design Engineer, you will bridge the gap between academic theory and physical, real-world machinery design. You will receive structured hands-on training, dedicated mentorship, and the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge while contributing to diverse engineering projects across the full lifecycle—from initial concept through to manufacture, installation, and commissioning.
NB: (Robotics / Programming experience is NOT necessary.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Bespoke 3D Design: Assisting with the design of bespoke mechanical components, structural fixtures, and automated cells using SolidWorks.
* Technical Documentation: Producing accurate 3D CAD models, detailed manufacturing drawings, assembly layouts, and creating/maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs).
* Project Support: Working directly alongside established Design Engineers throughout the development process, managing engineering documentation and design records.
* Hands-on Prototyping: Assisting with physical prototype builds, testing phases, and implementing continuous design improvements.
* Shop-Floor Collaboration: Liaising closely with manufacturing and assembly teams to ensure designs are practical, cost-effective, and fully manufacturable (DFMA).
* Continuous Learning: Actively developing your knowledge regarding advanced pneumatic/vacuum integration, sensor placement, and modern industrial automation best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
Essential Criteria:
* Education: A Degree (or expected degree) in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a highly relevant engineering discipline.
* CAD Capability: Strong foundational experience using SolidWorks and confidence in producing 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings.
* Attributes: A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop rapidly within a fast-paced engineering environment.
* Core Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, excellent attention to detail, and a genuine enthusiasm for innovative technology.
* Communication: Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.
Desirable Criteria (A Distinct Advantage):
* A university placement year or industrial internship completed within an engineering or manufacturing business.
* Practical knowledge of core manufacturing processes such as machining, fabrication, or sheet metal work.
* Familiarity with basic engineering calculations and mechanical design principles.
* A strong professional interest in special purpose machinery, smart manufacturing, or modern automation systems.
