Building Regulations Principal Designer
A well-established architectural practice is looking for a Building Regulations Principal Designer to join its Liverpool studio and take a leading role across higher-risk building projects.
The position will focus on the delivery of HRBs, including responsibility for coordinating compliance information and leading Gateway submissions. Alongside project delivery, you will help strengthen the practice's internal building safety processes and support the continued development of its Principal Designer offering.
The Role
Working closely with architects, technologists, consultants and clients, you will oversee Building Regulations compliance across a varied portfolio of residential, healthcare, refurbishment and remediation schemes.
Key responsibilities will include:
Leading higher-risk building projects through the regulatory process
Acting as Building Regulations Principal Designer
Preparing, coordinating and managing Gateway 2 and Gateway 3 submissions
Developing project compliance plans and strategies
Reviewing design information against Building Regulations requirements
Coordinating input from multidisciplinary design teams
Maintaining golden thread information
Managing design changes and recording compliance decisions
Identifying and resolving technical compliance issues
Advising clients on their duties under the Building Safety Act
Liaising with the Building Safety Regulator
Improving internal templates, procedures and reporting systems
Supporting bids, fee proposals and client presentations
Mentoring architects and technical colleagues
The Successful Candidate
The successful Building Regulations Principal Designer will have:
Direct experience working on higher-risk buildings
Experience leading or coordinating Gateway submissions
Strong knowledge of the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations
Previous experience in a Building Regulations Principal Designer capacity
A professional background in architecture, building control, building surveying or design compliance
The ability to lead and challenge design teams
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Experience supporting or mentoring technical staff
