Mechanical Engineer (Technical Documentation) - Engineering Services - Cumbria - £45-55/hr (outside IR35) - 6 months +
We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering business that is looking for a contract Mechanical Engineer to support the delivery of major engineering projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a mechanical engineering background who has strong technical writing and documentation experience. You'll play a key role in ensuring engineering documentation is technically robust, compliant and delivered to the highest standards.
The Role
Working closely with engineering and project teams, you'll be responsible for reviewing technical information, supervising design outputs and producing the documentation required to safely deliver complex projects.
Key responsibilities include:
* Preparing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
* Producing and approving Risk Assessments (RAMS) and Method Statements
* Preparing Lifting Plans and Lifting Schedules
* Producing and reviewing FAT/SAT (Factory & Site Acceptance Test) documentation
* Reviewing engineering designs and calculations to ensure technical accuracy and compliance
* Supervising and coordinating 3D CAD/Model Designers to ensure designs align with project requirements
* Maintaining document control and ensuring all documentation complies with client and regulatory standards.
About You
We're looking for someone who combines solid mechanical engineering knowledge with excellent technical writing skills.
You'll ideally have:
* A Mechanical Engineering qualification (HND or Degree)
* Experience producing engineering documentation within heavy engineering, nuclear, oil & gas, process, manufacturing or construction environments
* Strong technical writing and document review skills
* Experience reviewing engineering designs
* Experience supervising or coordinating 3D designers/modellers
* A thorough understanding of LOLER, PUWER and CDM Regulations
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
