Purchasing Manager (hybrid)

We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Purchasing Manager to lead the sourcing and procurement strategy for our metal stockholding client. This is a strategic role focused on securing supply continuity, managing supplier relationships, driving cost competitiveness, and supporting business growth through effective procurement and market intelligence.

The successful candidate will work closely with internal stakeholders across sales, operations, quality, logistics, and finance while developing strong partnerships with key mills, manufacturers, and strategic suppliers.

This role is based in the West Midlands and involves international travel approximately six times per year.

Key Responsibilities

* Develop and implement commodity strategies aligned with business objectives and market conditions.

* Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including shortages, capacity constraints, geopolitical factors, and supplier dependency.

* Lead supplier qualification, onboarding, and development to expand the approved supplier base.

* Negotiate supplier contracts to secure competitive pricing, favourable terms, and continuity of supply.

* Analyse RFQs and market opportunities to maximise margins and support business growth.

* Manage supplier performance through KPIs, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

* Collaborate with sales, operations, quality, logistics, and finance teams to meet customer requirements.

* Monitor aluminium market trends, including indices, billet premiums, alloy surcharges, and foreign exchange impacts.

* Drive supplier improvements in quality, delivery performance, and cost competitiveness.

* Benchmark supplier performance and identify new sourcing opportunities.

* Support sustainability objectives through responsible sourcing and increased use of recycled and low-carbon aluminium.

* Prepare and present procurement reports, commodity updates, and market intelligence to senior management.

* Ensure compliance with procurement policies, contractual obligations, and relevant regulations.

* Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and manufacturing partners.

* Support new business opportunities through competitive sourcing and quotation activities.

* Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost management alongside finance colleagues.

* Lead regular supplier performance reviews and implement improvement plans where required.

Skills & Experience

* Proven experience in a purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management role within manufacturing.

* Strong experience in material planning and supplier management.

* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

* High attention to detail and accuracy.

* A proactive approach with the ability to identify and implement improvements.

* Commercially aware, organised, and results-driven.

* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Outlook.

* Full UK driving licence.

* Experience of import/export customs procedures is desirable.

* Experience using SAP or a similar ERP system is advantageous.
