An established engineering manufacturer based in the West Midlands is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing design team.

The RoleAs a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for developing mechanical designs from customer requirements through to finished products.
Working as part of a close-knit engineering team, you will collaborate with internal departments including Production, Purchasing, Installation and Sales to deliver practical, cost-effective designs that meet customer requirements and industry standards.
This role offers the opportunity to work across a variety of bespoke projects, giving you exposure to the full engineering lifecycle and the satisfaction of seeing your designs become fully manufactured products.
Key Responsibilities
Design bespoke mechanical equipment using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
Produce detailed manufacturing drawings, fabrication drawings and technical documentation.
Develop concepts from customer specifications, requirements and site information.
Complete engineering calculations and design checks where required.
Ensure designs meet relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and efficient to produce.
Support product improvements, design reviews and engineering projects.
Assist with component selection, cost considerations and supplier discussions.
Provide technical support to installation and service teams when required.About YouThe ideal candidate will be a practical and hands-on Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys solving engineering challenges and developing products for real-world applications.
You will have experience with:
Mechanical design and product development
3D CAD packages (SolidWorks preferred)
Fabricated steel structures
Sheet metal and welded assemblies
Design for Manufacture (DFM)
Production and manufacturing drawings
Bill of Materials (BOM) creation
Engineering calculations
Working closely with manufacturing environmentsDesirable ExperienceExperience within any of the following areas would be beneficial:
Bespoke machinery design
Special purpose machinery
Lifting equipment
Materials handling systems
Hydraulic systems
