A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Islington is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child in Key Stage 1 with Down Syndrome from September 2026.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping them develop academically, socially, and emotionally within a nurturing classroom environment.

The successful candidate will:

Have previous experience supporting children with SEND within a primary school setting
Have experience supporting children with Down Syndrome or similar additional needs (highly desirable)
Be confident providing 1:1 support and adapting activities to meet individual needs
Have a patient, caring, and nurturing approach
Support the child's communication, independence, confidence, and engagement in learning
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider support team
Have a strong understanding of inclusive education and positive behaviour strategies

The role will involve:

Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a child in KS1 throughout the school day
Supporting learning activities and adapting resources where required
Encouraging independence and participation within the classroom
Supporting social interaction, communication, and emotional development
Assisting with the implementation of individual support plans and targets
Working collaboratively with teachers and SEND professionals to ensure the best outcomes for the pupil
