The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior IT Security Specialist to join a large public sector organisation on an initial 6-month contract.
This is a key role within the IT Security team, where you'll lead the development and maturity of the organisation's Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery capabilities while strengthening its overall cyber security posture.
You'll work closely with technical teams, business stakeholders and third-party suppliers to ensure critical services remain resilient, secure and compliant.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development, implementation and maintenance of Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies across IT and the wider organisation.
* Conduct Business Impact Assessments (BIAs) and risk assessments to identify critical services and recovery requirements.
* Develop, maintain and test Disaster Recovery playbooks, resilience plans and recovery exercises.
* Manage vulnerability assessments using Tenable (Nessus, Tenable.io or Tenable.sc) and coordinate remediation activities with technical teams.
* Carry out third-party supplier security assessments and support ongoing risk management.
* Ensure compliance with recognised security frameworks including ISO 27001, NIST, CAF, PCI-DSS and Cyber Essentials Plus.
* Produce clear reports and recommendations for senior stakeholders.
* Support continuous improvement of the organisation's cyber resilience and security governance.
Essential Skills & Experience
* Proven experience developing and delivering Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery strategies.
* Strong understanding of Business Impact Assessments (BIAs) and risk management.
* Experience creating and managing Business Continuity Plans and Disaster Recovery documentation.
* Hands-on experience using Tenable vulnerability management solutions.
* Experience analysing security vulnerabilities and managing remediation activities.
* Strong knowledge of ISO 27001, NIST, CAF, PCI-DSS and Cyber Essentials Plus.
* Experience conducting supplier and third-party security assessments.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Desirable
* Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA or ISO 27001 Lead Implementer/Auditor.
* Experience working within Local Government, the wider Public Sector or other regulated environments.
* Knowledge of enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms and modern IT environments.
