Academics is currently recruiting for a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a supportive primary school in Hemel Hempstead. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled and motivated teaching professional who is passionate about supporting children's learning, development and wellbeing.

Job Title: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Location: Hemel Hempstead
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Start Date: September 2026

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning across the school. You will have the opportunity to work across different year groups, deliver engaging learning activities and provide valuable support to pupils with a range of abilities and needs.

Key Responsibilities

As an HLTA, your responsibilities will include:

Delivering planned lessons and learning activities to individuals, small groups or whole classes when required.
Supporting teachers with planning, preparation and assessment to ensure pupils make strong progress.
Creating engaging and inclusive learning opportunities that meet the needs of all pupils.
Supporting children with a range of needs, including SEND, EAL and differing learning abilities.
Promoting positive behaviour and maintaining a calm, purposeful and engaging classroom environment.
Monitoring pupil progress and providing meaningful feedback to teachers and the wider team.
Adapting resources and learning approaches to support individual pupil development.
Providing pastoral support and contributing to pupils' social, emotional and academic growth.
Supporting the wider life of the school, including events, activities and enrichment opportunities.
Maintaining high standards of safeguarding, health and safety and pupil wellbeing.The Ideal Candidate Will Have

The successful Higher Level Teaching Assistant will ideally have:

HLTA status or equivalent relevant qualification and experience.
Strong experience working within a primary school setting.
Confidence delivering lessons independently across different year groups.
Experience supporting pupils with SEND and additional learning needs.
A positive, flexible and proactive approach to supporting children's education.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
A strong understanding of child development and inclusive teaching practices.
A genuine passion for helping children learn, grow and achieve their potential.What the School Offers
