Location: Newton Aycliffe
Salary: £50,000 + Benefits
Shifts: Day Shift, Monday to Friday

The Company

Our client is a leading high-volume manufacturer operating within a highly automated and technically advanced production environment in the North East.

As part of a significant period of investment and growth, the business is continuing to enhance its manufacturing capability through investment in new technology, equipment, systems and people. With a strong focus on operational excellence, reliability and continuous improvement, the business is evolving its maintenance strategy to become more proactive, data-driven and engineering-led.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join a forward-thinking organisation and play a key role in improving equipment performance, reliability and long-term production capability.

The Opportunity

Due to continued investment and growth, our client is looking to appoint an experienced Electrically Biased Maintenance Engineer to join their engineering team.

This newly created position has been designed to support the transition from reactive maintenance towards a more proactive reliability-focused approach. You will play a key role in maximising equipment availability, reducing downtime and driving continuous improvement across a highly automated manufacturing facility.

Working closely with production, engineering and operational teams, you will be responsible for identifying recurring issues, implementing long-term solutions and improving overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

This is a hands-on engineering role with the opportunity to make a tangible impact on site performance and influence future maintenance strategy.

Key Responsibilities

* Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance activities across a highly automated manufacturing facility

* Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and control system faults

* Support the improvement of equipment reliability, availability and performance

* Lead and contribute to root cause analysis (RCA) investigations to eliminate repeat failures

* Identify opportunities to improve OEE, reduce downtime and increase production efficiency

* Utilise CMMS systems and maintenance data to identify trends and implement corrective actions

* Support the development of proactive maintenance strategies and continuous improvement initiatives

* Fault find on PLC-controlled machinery, automation systems and robotic equipment

* Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics and technical documentation

* Work collaboratively with production teams to improve machine performance and minimise disruption

* Contribute to engineering projects, equipment upgrades and process improvements

About You

The successful candidate will be an experienced Maintenance Engineer with an electrical bias, ideally gained within a high-volume manufacturing or automated production environment.

You will have:

* Electrically biased multi-skilled engineering experience

* Strong experience working with automated machinery, robotics and PLC-controlled systems

* Proven fault-finding ability across electrical and mechanical systems

* Experience within a high-volume manufacturing environment

* A strong understanding of preventative maintenance and reliability improvement techniques

* Experience conducting root cause analysis and structured problem-solving

* Ability to interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings

* Experience using CMMS systems and maintenance data to drive improvements

* A proactive approach with a genuine interest in improving processes and equipment performance

* Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering and production teams

Ideally, you will hold an HNC/HND qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline, or have equivalent practical experience.

Why Join?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a business that is investing heavily in its future. You will be joining at a key stage of growth, with the chance to influence maintenance strategy, improve reliability and make a real impact on operational performance.

If you are an experienced Maintenance Engineer looking for a role where you can move beyond reactive fault finding and become part of a forward-thinking engineering function, we would like to hear from you.
