Casting Setter / Casting Straightener
Location: Worcester
Pay Rate: £13.00 - £14.00 per hour (depending on experience)
Hours:
Monday - Thursday: 07:45 - 16:30
Friday: 07:30 - 13:30Contract: Temporary to Permanent after 12 weeks (subject to attendance, performance and business requirements)
About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a Casting Setter / Casting Straightener to join a leading aerospace manufacturer in Worcester.
This role forms a key part of the casting process following heat treatment. During heat treatment, aluminium and magnesium castings can naturally distort. As a Casting Setter, you will manually straighten and realign components to restore them to the required dimensional tolerances before they move on to machining and final inspection.
This is a highly skilled, hands-on engineering role, ideally suited to someone with strong mechanical aptitude and experience in traditional manufacturing or engineering environments.
Key Responsibilities
Manually straighten aluminium and magnesium castings following heat treatment
Use hand tools including hammers, mallets, bars, straight edges, jigs and fixtures
Read and interpret basic engineering drawings, dimensions and tolerances
Check straightness, alignment and flatness using gauges, rules and measuring equipment
Apply controlled force to avoid damage while achieving precise tolerances
Work to strict aerospace quality standards and manufacturing procedures
Identify defects or non-conforming components and report issues promptly
Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment
Work closely with the Heat Treatment, Inspection and Machining departments
Working Environment

Workshop and foundry environment
Manual role involving standing for extended periods and handling metal components
Essential Skills & Experience
Previous experience within engineering, manufacturing or a foundry environment
Confident using hand tools such as hammers, mallets and straight edges
Good mechanical aptitude and excellent hand-eye coordination
Ability to work accurately to tight tolerances
Strong attention to detail and patience
Understanding of basic engineering principles
Desirable Experience
Casting, foundry or heat treatment experience
Aerospace, automotive or heavy engineering background
Fabrication, fitting, bench fitting or toolmaking
Metal straightening, fettling or dressing experience
This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy precision manual engineering work and take pride in producing high-quality components, rather than operating CNC machinery.
