Commercial Manager
Our client is a leading infrastructure services provider delivering essential projects across the utilities and civil engineering sectors. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to join their team on a permanent basis.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving commercial performance across a portfolio of infrastructure projects, ensuring robust cost control, accurate forecasting, and effective contract management within a fast-paced operational environment.
You'll lead a commercial team of up to 20 professionals, ranging from Graduate Quantity Surveyors through to Managing Quantity Surveyors, whilst supporting the successful delivery of multiple projects across the South of England.
Key Responsibilities
Lead commercial management activities across multiple live infrastructure and civil engineering projects
Administer NEC contracts, including management of change control and compensation events
Produce CVRs, cost reports, and financial forecasts across a diverse project portfolio
Ensure effective cost control, value recovery, and commercial governance throughout project lifecycles
Manage procurement activities including subcontractor engagement, supplier negotiation, and contract administration
Monitor commercial performance, cash flow, work in progress, and financial recovery processes
Develop and enhance commercial processes, reporting structures, and forecasting methodologies
Support operational teams in identifying, managing, and mitigating commercial risks
Provide leadership, mentoring, and development to a high-performing commercial team
Essential Requirements
Proven experience in a Commercial Manager or Senior Commercial role within Highways, Water, Rail, civil engineering, utilities, energy, infrastructure, or regulated sectors
T1 Contracting experience - delivering on framwework agreements
Strong working knowledge of NEC contract forms and change management processes
Experience producing CVRs, commercial reporting, forecasting, and financial performance analysis
Strong commercial acumen and analytical capability
Advanced Excel and reporting system skills
Experience managing procurement, subcontractors, and commercial administration activities
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
Ability to manage and oversee a commercial team of 20.
Desirable Requirements
Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Commercial Management, or a related discipline
Professional membership such as MRICS, MCICES, or equivalent
Experience within regulated utilities, energy, infrastructure, or major civil engineering environments
Track record of improving commercial systems, reporting, or governance processes
Exposure to cost optimisation, value engineering, or continuous improvement initiatives
Location
This role will involve regular travel across operational sites and offices within the Thames Valley region, therefore flexibility to travel is required.
