SEND & SEMH Specialist Tutor - Frome & Surrounding Somerset Areas

1:1 SEND & SEMH Support | Flexible Hours | September 2026 Opportunities

Quantum Scholars is expanding its Somerset tutoring team ahead of what is expected to be a busy September 2026, with a growing number of SEND, SEMH, EOTAS (Education Other Than At School), and Alternative Provision referrals across Frome and the surrounding Somerset areas.

We are seeking compassionate, resilient, and experienced SEND & SEMH Specialist Tutors to provide personalised 1:1 educational support to children and young people who are unable to access mainstream education.

The learners we support often require more than academic tuition. Many benefit from positive role models who can build trust, develop confidence, and create a safe learning environment where they can re-engage with education at their own pace.

Learners may present with a range of needs, including:

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
ADHD
Anxiety and emotionally based barriers to learning
Trauma and adverse childhood experiences
Medical needs
Behavioural challenges
EBSA (Emotionally Based School Avoidance)Every young person is different, so we are looking for tutors who can adapt their approach, build meaningful relationships, and deliver engaging, learner-centred sessions that support both academic and personal development.

Whether you're a qualified teacher, SEN specialist, experienced tutor, mentor, teaching assistant, youth worker, or education professional looking for flexible work, this is an opportunity to make a genuine and lasting impact on a young person's life.

Support is delivered on a 1:1 basis with primary and secondary-aged learners (up to age 16). Sessions typically take place face-to-face within the learner's home or in a suitable community setting, with occasional online tuition opportunities where appropriate.

One of the key benefits of this role is its flexibility. Whether you're looking for a few hours each week to complement other work or hoping to build a regular timetable of 20+ hours, we'll work closely with your availability wherever possible. With referrals expected to continue throughout the academic year, there will be ongoing opportunities across Frome and the wider Somerset region.

What We're Looking For

Experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or SEMH needs
Teaching, tutoring, mentoring, youth work, or educational support experience
The ability to adapt learning and engagement strategies to meet individual needs
A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Confidence working independently in a 1:1 environment
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is highly advantageous
Ability to travel within Frome and surrounding Somerset areas

What We Offer

Flexible work to suit your availability
Ongoing referrals throughout the academic year
Meaningful 1:1 work with vulnerable children and young people
Face-to-face opportunities with occasional online tuition
Competitive hourly rates, dependent on experience
Dedicated consultant support throughout your placementsPlease note that applicants must already have the right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, visa sponsorship is not available for these opportunities.

If you're passionate about helping children and young people overcome barriers to education and thrive through personalised support, we'd love to hear from you
