Job Title – Multi-Skilled Shift Maintenance Engineer

Location – Newport, South Wales
Salary – £42,892
Shift – Rotating 3 Shift Pattern (6am–2pm, 2pm–10pm, 10pm–6am)

Job Role of the Multi-Skilled Shift Maintenance Engineer

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Multi-Skilled Shift Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established and growing food manufacturing business supplying major retailers, restaurants, and food service customers across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to join a business that invests heavily in its people, equipment, and facilities, while offering genuine opportunities for career progression into supervisory and management positions.

You will be responsible for carrying out both planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs across a busy manufacturing site consisting of multiple production buildings. Working closely with production teams, you will help ensure maximum equipment reliability, minimise downtime, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

The role also includes responsibility for site facilities, utilities, and infrastructure, making this an ideal opportunity for an engineer who enjoys variety and autonomy.

Sector – Manufacturing / FMCG

Non-Negotiable Requirements of the Multi-Skilled Shift Maintenance Engineer

Formal engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 or above in an Electrical or Mechanical discipline)
Minimum of 3 years' engineering experience within a manufacturing environment
Full UK driving licence and own transport due to site location

Desirable Requirements for the Multi-Skilled Shift Maintenance Engineer

Experience within food manufacturing or FMCG environments
Apprenticeship, ONC, or equivalent engineering qualification
Knowledge of refrigeration systems and site utilities
Continuous improvement experience

Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs
Maintaining all plant, machinery, equipment, utilities, and site facilities
Ensuring maximum machinery availability to support production demands
Managing maintenance records and ensuring compliance with engineering standards
Supporting continuous improvement projects across production and engineering
Liaising with contractors and external suppliers when required
Maintaining Health & Safety, hygiene, and GMP standards at all times
Supporting utility systems and site infrastructure to ensure operational reliability
