If you've served in the RAF, Royal Signals, 14 Signal Regiment, REME or another defence communications or infrastructure role, and enjoy solving technical problems where reliability really matters, we'd like to hear from you. We're recruiting a Field Service Engineer to support advanced defence technology across secure customer sites throughout the UK for a client who are a leading tech and engineering firm operating within defence.
This isn't a desk-based support role.
You'll be out with customers maintaining critical systems, supporting military exercises, carrying out technology upgrades, diagnosing complex faults and ensuring operational capability is always maintained. Whether your experience comes from deployed operations, secure headquarters, NATO exercises or supporting classified infrastructure, your background is highly relevant.
The Opportunity
The Field Service Engineer plays a key role in delivering high‑quality support to customers across the UK and international locations. The role involves regular communication with internal teams, customers, and suppliers to ensure efficient service delivery and consistently high levels of customer satisfaction to drive sustainable and profitable business growth.
You'll need a solid understanding of IT infrastructure, networks & networking, Radio Frequency, and experience of working with/for the MoD.
Key Responsibilities
Commission, configure and support secure networking and encryption equipment
Carry out planned maintenance, patching, firmware updates and system audits across customer sites
Diagnose and repair complex hardware faults through structured root cause analysis
Install, configure and maintain Windows Server, virtualised environments and secure network infrastructure
Support military exercises, demonstrations, customer trials and acceptance testing
Deliver operator and maintainer training to end users
Provide 1st and 2nd line remote technical support for customers
Act as the technical interface between customers, engineering, logistics and project teams
Produce detailed service reports, technical documentation and knowledge base articles
Support software releases, deployments, configuration management and hardware lifecycle activities
Analyse field performance data to drive continuous improvements across products and support services
Participate in a 24/7 on-call rota (1 week in 4)
We're looking for engineers with experience in:
Royal Air Force, Royal Signals, 14 Signal Regiment, REME or Defence Communications
MoD engineering or secure defence environments
Radio Frequency (RF) systems and secure communications
Cisco networking, routers, switches and firewalls
Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
VMware ESXi and/or Microsoft Hyper-V
LAN, WAN and VLAN networking
Encryption and cryptographic devices
Hardware installation, fault finding, preventative maintenance and lifecycle management
Customer-facing engineering and stakeholder communication
Producing technical documentation, service reports and maintenance records
Working within controlled change, release and configuration management processes
Supporting operational or deployed defence infrastructure
You'll need
HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering (or equivalent military experience)
Full UK Driving Licence
Willingness and eligibility to obtain SC and DV Security Clearance
Flexibility to travel to customer sites, with occasional overseas travel
Availability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota (1 week in 4)
