We're recruiting a Field Service Engineer to support advanced defence technology across secure customer sites throughout the UK for a client who are a leading tech and engineering firm operating within defence.

The Opportunity

The Field Service Engineer plays a key role in delivering high-quality support to customers across the UK and international locations. The role involves regular communication with internal teams, customers, and suppliers to ensure efficient service delivery and consistently high levels of customer satisfaction to drive sustainable and profitable business growth.

You'll need a solid understanding of IT infrastructure, networks & networking, Radio Frequency, and experience of working with/for the MoD.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commission, configure and support secure networking and encryption equipment
  • Carry out planned maintenance, patching, firmware updates and system audits across customer sites
  • Diagnose and repair complex hardware faults through structured root cause analysis

  • Deliver operator and maintainer training to end users
  • Provide 1st and 2nd line remote technical support for customers
  • Act as the technical interface between customers, engineering, logistics and project teams
  • Produce detailed service reports, technical documentation and knowledge base articles
  • Support software releases, deployments, configuration management and hardware life cycle activities
  • Analyse field performance data to drive continuous improvements across products and support services
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rota (1 week in 4)

We're looking for engineers with experience in:

  • Royal Air Force, Royal Signals, 14 Signal Regiment, REME or Defence Communications
  • MoD engineering or secure defence environments
  • Radio Frequency (RF) systems and secure communications
  • Cisco networking, Routers, Switches and Firewalls
  • Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
  • VMware ESXi and/or Microsoft Hyper-V
  • LAN, WAN and VLAN networking
  • Encryption and cryptographic devices
  • Hardware installation, fault finding, preventative maintenance and life cycle management
  • Customer-facing engineering and stakeholder communication
  • Producing technical documentation, service reports and maintenance records
  • Working within controlled change, release and configuration management processes
  • Supporting operational or deployed defence infrastructure

You'll need

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering (or equivalent military experience)
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Willingness and eligibility to obtain SC and DV Security Clearance
  • Flexibility to travel to customer sites, with occasional overseas travel
  • Availability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota (1 week in 4)

Why Join?

You'll continue supporting technology that genuinely matters while working with some of the UK's most advanced defence systems.

The role offers a great balance of field engineering and hybrid working, exposure to cutting-edge secure technology, direct engagement with defence customers and the opportunity to influence future product improvements through your technical expertise.

If you've commissioned secure communications, supported classified infrastructure, maintained operational military systems or deployed defence technology in demanding environments, we'd love to hear from you.
