SEN Teacher - Autism Pathway (Years 3-8) | Romford | September 2026

A specialist SEN school in Romford is seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Teacher to join their Autism Pathway provision for September 2026, with paid trials taking place as soon as possible.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about supporting children with Autism and enjoys working in a structured, nurturing environment where every day brings new rewards.

The Role

You will lead a class of 8 pupils aged between Years 3 and 8, all of whom are non-verbal and have a diagnosis of Autism. The pupils are energetic, engaging and thrive on consistency, routine and positive relationships.

The classroom is exceptionally well supported, with 2 Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) and 3 Teaching Assistants, allowing you to focus on delivering high-quality, personalised learning and supporting each pupil's individual needs.

A strong understanding of sensory regulation strategies and communication approaches is essential, as the pupils require a calm, structured environment that promotes emotional regulation and independence.

The Role Includes

Full-time SEN Teacher position starting in September 2026.
Paid trial days available immediately.
Planning and delivering highly differentiated lessons tailored to individual EHCP targets.
Creating predictable routines and maintaining a calm, structured classroom environment.
Supporting pupils with sensory regulation throughout the school day.
Working collaboratively with a highly experienced team of HLTAs, Teaching Assistants, therapists and the wider SEN staff.
Monitoring progress and celebrating small but significant achievements.

The Ideal Candidate

Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
Has experience working with pupils with Autism, ideally within an SEN setting.
Understands the needs of non-verbal learners and alternative communication methods such as PECS, Makaton or AAC (desirable but not essential).
Is patient, resilient and able to remain calm in a busy classroom environment.
Can establish clear routines and consistent expectations.
Has excellent behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
Is committed to providing a nurturing, inclusive learning environment where every child can succeed.
