D R Newitt are delighted to be partnering with a well-established engineering and manufacturing organisation that supplies precision-engineered products and services to a range of industrial sectors across the UK.
Due to continued growth and a strong order book, we are looking to recruit an experienced Manual Turner to join their workshop team based in Hillington, Glasgow.
This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served engineer who enjoys precision machining, varied workshop projects, and working within a busy and technically challenging environment.
The Role
As a Manual Turner, you will be responsible for the manufacture, repair and refurbishment of precision-engineered components, supporting the overhaul and maintenance of industrial equipment.
Key Responsibilities Include:
* Setting and operating conventional manual centre lathes
* Manufacturing and refurbishing components to precise engineering tolerances
* Working from engineering drawings, technical specifications and sample components
* Machining a variety of materials including carbon steels, stainless steels and specialist alloys
* Carrying out repair and refurbishment work on worn or damaged components
* Inspecting finished work using precision measuring equipment to ensure quality standards are met
* Working closely with engineers and workshop personnel to determine suitable machining and repair methods
* Completing workshop documentation and inspection records accurately
* Supporting continuous improvement activities and maintaining excellent housekeeping standards
* Working safely and promoting a positive health and safety culture at all times
What We're Looking For:
* Time-served Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
* Proven experience operating manual centre lathes within an engineering, manufacturing or repair environment
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
* Experience machining components to tight tolerances
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
* Flexible and proactive approach to workshop activities
* Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
* Strong commitment to health, safety and continuous improvement
