SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Effingham, Surrey

Pay: £13.50 - £15.50 per hour (depending on experience)

Hours: Monday - Friday term time only

Contract: Supply, ad hoc, short term and long term opportunities

We're working with a specialist secondary school in Effingham that supports pupils aged 11–16 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The school provides a supportive, structured and inclusive learning environment where every student is encouraged to develop academically, socially and emotionally. Alongside the national curriculum, pupils are supported in gaining valuable life skills and vocational qualifications to help prepare them for adulthood.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you'll play an important part in supporting students throughout the school day. Working closely with teachers and the wider support team, you'll help create a positive learning environment where pupils feel safe, engaged and confident to succeed.

Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting students with learning activities both in and out of the classroom.

Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil engagement.

Building trusted relationships that help pupils develop confidence and independence.

Assisting teachers with lesson preparation and classroom resources.

Helping to maintain a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

Supporting the school's safeguarding procedures and promoting pupil wellbeing at all times.

About You

We're looking for someone who is patient, proactive and committed to making a positive impact.

Ideally, you'll have:

Experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs.

A Level 2 qualification (or above) in Teaching and Learning Support (desirable).

GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above.

Knowledge of Autism (ASC), SEMH or other additional needs.

A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection practices.

A child-centred approach with the ability to adapt support to individual needs.

A positive, flexible and creative attitude.

Willingness to undertake behaviour management training, including Team Teach physical intervention where required.

Strong communication skills and the ability to complete accurate records and reports.
