SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Effingham, Surrey

Salary: £13.50 - £15.50 per hour (dependent on experience)

Hours: 40 hours per week – Term Time Only

Working hours: 8.15am start. Finish times: Monday–Wednesday 4.45pm, Thursday 5pm, Friday 4pm

We are currently seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant on behalf of a specialist school based in Effingham, Surrey. The school supports young people aged 11–16 with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), providing a supportive environment where students can develop academically, socially, and emotionally.

The school focuses on recognising each pupil’s strengths and needs, helping students access learning at their own pace while developing independence and preparing them for future opportunities, including vocational pathways.

The Role Includes:

Providing day-to-day support for pupils with SEN within the classroom environment

Helping to create a calm, positive, and inclusive learning atmosphere

Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, communication, and behaviour strategies

Encouraging confidence, independence, and personal growth

Working closely with teaching staff to deliver engaging lessons and tailored activities

Preparing resources and assisting with learning activities

Maintaining accurate records and contributing to pupil progress updates

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Previous experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs

Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), SEMH, or related additional needs

A patient, understanding, and consistent approach

GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4 (C) or above

A Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (desirable)

Awareness of safeguarding procedures and child protection responsibilities

The ability to build trusting relationships with pupils

A proactive attitude and willingness to adapt support to individual needs

Confidence in supporting positive behaviour approaches, including Team Teach intervention where required

Strong communication skills and the ability to complete clear written reports
