With continued growth and a strong pipeline of upcoming projects, they are looking to expand their design team with an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a close-knit engineering environment where you will have real ownership and responsibility across a wide range of projects.
The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role within the engineering team, taking projects from initial customer requirements through to final delivery.
This is a varied position combining mechanical design, project engineering, and customer interaction. You will be responsible for developing bespoke machinery solutions, coordinating with internal departments, and ensuring projects are delivered successfully.
Your responsibilities will include:
Designing bespoke heavy-duty conveyor systems and mechanical equipment
Producing detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings
Designing fabricated structures including frames, supports, and gantries
Creating layout drawings and detailed engineering documentation
Using CAD packages including SolidWorks, Inventor, and Tekla
Carrying out basic structural calculations and component selection
Selecting mechanical components including motors, rollers, belts, and drives
Managing projects from concept through to manufacture and installation
Liaising with customers, suppliers, purchasing, and internal teams
Supporting fabrication and installation activities
What We’re Looking For:
5+ years’ experience within a Mechanical Design Engineer or Project Engineer position
Strong 3D CAD experience using SolidWorks or a similar package
Experience designing machinery, fabricated equipment, or heavy-duty structures
Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles
Experience with basic calculations and design verification
Ability to manage projects and take ownership of your workload
Strong communication skills with confidence speaking to customers and stakeholders
Experience That Would Be Advantageous:
Conveyor systems
Heavy machinery design
Structural steel design
Special purpose machinery (SPM)
Industrial equipment used within manufacturing, quarrying, agricultural, or logistics environments
