Your new role
Southend City Council are looking to appoint a part-time (22.2hrs) per week Health Practitioner within a 12-month fixed term capacity.

The purpose of Public Health is to improve local health and wellbeing and reduce health inequalities. The post holder will lead in community engagement across the city, as well as providing public health input into the wider community, including school and work-based settings.The post will contribute to the development of community-led activities to support public health improvements for children and young people, through:

Helping to engage with community groups.
Facilitate development and implementation of public health-related projects;
Use evidence-based practice and local intelligence data (e.g. the JSNA) to inform and support community-led initiatives.The position is mostly based around children and young people with a heavy focus on the under 5s. It includes rollout of the healthy early years awards, supervised toothbrushing in community settings, and child development initiatives, involving local people in identifying issues and solving them.Working at an operational level, the post holder will develop and ensure the implementation of projects, working alongside the early years' workforce and public health colleagues.

Whilst the position is mostly community based, you are required to be on site at the Civic Centre a minimum of 1 day a week.The 3 working days are flexible.

What you'll need to succeed
To be shortlisted for this position, it is essential that you have at least 1 year' experience of working in children's and young people's public health, health promotion or community development.

You will need to be able to network and go out to providers in the community. It is important to have good communication skills, including the ability to meet new people and to work collaboratively in a team. You will need to be dynamic, motivated and self-directed, be able to initiate new opportunities and develop them into ideas and work schemes.Whilst driving isn't essential, you must be able to travel around Southeast Essex with ease to attend meetings if needed.
