Automation Engineer

Are you an experienced Automation or Robotics Engineer looking for an exciting opportunity where you will play a key role in driving operational improvement? This role offers the chance to lead the implementation of automation projects, including programming, testing, and commissioning of manufacturing technologies within a production environment transitioning from manual to automated processes.

We are seeking an Automation Engineer to join a well-established industrial manufacturing site. This is a newly created position with responsibility for introducing and expanding automation capabilities across a traditionally manual operation, with the aim of increasing output, improving efficiency, and reducing operational costs.

This is a standalone engineering role within the site’s engineering function. You will take ownership of projects from concept through to commissioning, while continuously identifying opportunities for process optimisation, efficiency gains, and cost reduction.

The organisation operates within the advanced materials and industrial manufacturing sector, with a strong focus on sustainable solutions that improve customer performance and reduce environmental impact.

This is a Monday–Friday role based on a single manufacturing site, with some flexibility available on start and finish times. A competitive salary and benefits package is offered, including bonus, pension, and optional private healthcare.

What we are looking for:

* Proven experience as an Automation or Robotics Engineer in a manufacturing environment

* Strong knowledge of PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, and industrial control systems (Siemens S7 experience desirable)

* Experience delivering engineering projects; PRINCE2 or similar project management certification advantageous

* Data-driven approach with the ability to analyse production data and identify efficiency improvements

* Strong commitment to health & safety, with experience embedding safe systems of work into engineering solutions advantageous

* Minimum Level 4 qualification in an engineering or related discipline

What you will be doing:

* Identify and deliver automation solutions to improve productivity, efficiency, and reliability

* Lead automation and digital capital projects from initial concept through to full commissioning

* Manage external suppliers and contractors, including scoping, quoting, and negotiation

* Standardise control systems and automation architecture across the site where appropriate

* Act as a health & safety advocate, ensuring all solutions reduce risk and improve safe working practices

* Act as the technical expert for automation, collaborating with site teams and senior leadership to drive continuous improvement

About the organisation:

We are a global leader in advanced industrial manufacturing and sustainable solutions. Our purpose is to deliver high-performance products that improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and support a more sustainable future.

We value diversity and inclusion, recognising that a wide range of perspectives strengthens innovation and decision-making. We are committed to providing a welcoming and supportive environment where individuals can bring their authentic selves to work and contribute to meaningful change
