We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Teaching Assistant with BSL Level 6 qualification to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a student with hearing difficulties within a secondary school in St Helens.
This is a rewarding long-term opportunity for a specialist practitioner who is passionate about supporting young people with communication needs and ensuring they can fully access learning, social opportunities, and school life.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist communication support for a student with hearing impairment throughout the school day.
* Interpret and facilitate communication using British Sign Language (BSL) at an advanced level.
* Support the student in accessing the curriculum across a range of subjects.
* Work closely with teaching staff, SENDCO, external professionals, and the student's family to ensure effective support strategies are in place.
* Adapt learning materials and communication methods to meet the student's individual needs.
* Promote independence, confidence, and inclusion within the classroom and wider school environment.
* Monitor progress and contribute to reviews and support plans.
Essential Requirements
* BSL Level 6 qualification (essential).
* Extensive experience supporting children or young people with hearing impairments.
* Expert knowledge of communication needs and inclusive educational practices.
* Experience working within a secondary school or educational setting.
* Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
* Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider SEND team.
* Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable
* Experience supporting students with additional SEND needs.
* Knowledge of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
* Previous experience working alongside Teachers of the Deaf and other specialist professionals.
