Supply Desk is working in partnership with a number of specialist SEN schools and provisions across Brighton and Hove, who are seeking compassionate and dedicated PMLD Teaching Assistants to support pupils within Key Stage 2. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to children with profound and multiple learning difficulties, helping them access learning, develop communication skills, and build confidence in a safe and nurturing environment.
About the Role
As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with Key Stage 2 pupils who have complex learning, physical, sensory, medical, and communication needs. You will provide tailored support on a 1:1 and small group basis, helping pupils engage with personalised learning activities, therapy programmes, sensory learning, and daily routines. You will play an important role in promoting independence, wellbeing, and positive engagement throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group support for Key Stage 2 pupils with PMLD
Support pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties, complex needs, and sensory needs
Assist with personalised learning plans, EHCP targets, and communication strategies
Support pupils during sensory learning, therapeutic activities, and structured routines
Help with personal care, mobility, feeding, and medical support where required, following school procedures
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, SENCOs, and wider support teams
Promote a safe, inclusive, calm, and nurturing learning environment
Candidate Profile
Experience working with children or young people with PMLD, complex needs, or SEND is highly desirable
Previous experience supporting pupils within Key Stage 2 or primary settings is desirable
A calm, patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
Confidence supporting personal care, communication, sensory needs, and physical needs
Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with a multidisciplinary team
A genuine passion for supporting children with complex additional needs
Requirements
Relevant experience working with children or young people with SEND, PMLD, or complex needs
Willingness to support personal care and physical needs where required
Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
Two years’ worth of professional references
Eligibility to work in the UK
