SEN Teaching Assistant (Primary)

Are you a dedicated, compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant with experience supporting children with additional needs? Join a Barnet primary school team where your expertise helps children with SEND access learning, build independence and thrive.

About the role

Tradewind Recruitment is working with primary schools in Barnet to find experienced SEN Teaching Assistants for immediate and ongoing placements. These roles typically involve providing one-to-one or small group support for pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities.

You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and any external specialists to deliver targeted support for pupils with Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans and other identified SEND needs. Needs may include autism spectrum condition (ASC), ADHD, speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), social, emotional and mental health difficulties (SEMH) and physical or sensory needs.

Your role will involve adapting resources, using agreed strategies and communication tools, tracking pupil progress against EHCP targets and helping pupils to access the wider curriculum alongside their peers wherever possible.

What we are looking for

Proven experience supporting pupils with SEND in a primary school setting
Knowledge of a range of SEND needs, including ASC, ADHD, SLCN and SEMH
Familiarity with EHC plans and delivering support in line with EHCP targets
Experience using alternative communication strategies (e.g. Makaton, PECS, visual timetables)
A patient, consistent and nurturing approach with the ability to build trust with vulnerable pupils
Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent (desirable)
Enhanced DBS and up-to-date safeguarding training
