Teaching Personnel are recruiting for a confident, resilient, and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a specialist secondary school in Manchester. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about helping young people with additional needs succeed both academically and personally.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work within small class, supporting students aged 11–16 with a wide range of special educational needs.

You will play a vital role in supporting pupils’ learning, behaviour, and emotional development. The role involves working 1:1 and in small groups, implementing Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), and providing consistent pastoral and behavioural support.

Due to the needs of the pupils, you must be confident in managing challenging behaviours and be willing to support with personal care where required. A calm, adaptable, and proactive approach is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Support pupils with SEN on a 1:1 and small group basis
Manage and support pupils displaying challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner
Provide support with academic, social, and emotional development
Assist with personal care, where required
Promote positive behaviour strategies and inclusive practice
Work closely with teachers, therapists, and external professionals
Support classroom preparation and maintain a safe learning environment
Record and report pupil progress and behaviour to teaching staff
Supervise pupils during lessons, break times, and activities
Essential Requirements

Experience working with children or young people (SEN experience highly desirable)
Confident managing challenging behaviour in a professional manner
Willingness to support personal care and complex needs
Patient, resilient, and proactive approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
Desirable Skills

Experience supporting pupils with ASC, ADHD, SEMH, or complex needs
Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, Psychology degree)
Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake training)
Experience working in a secondary or specialist provision setting
