Manufacturing Project Engineer

Location: Desford, Leicestershire (Fully Onsite)
Contract: Initial 6 months (Likely Extension - Rolling)
Rate: £47.03 per hour (£352.73 per day) Inside IR35
Start Date: ASAP

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Manufacturing Project Engineer to join a leading manufacturing organisation on an initial 6-month contract.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys owning projects from concept through to implementation while driving meaningful operational improvements within a production environment. The successful candidate will take responsibility for a portfolio of manufacturing and process improvement initiatives, working closely with operational and engineering teams to deliver sustainable results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver manufacturing improvement projects from current state through to implementation
  • Define project scope, timelines, risks and deliverables
  • Coordinate activities across operations, engineering and supply chain teams
  • Drive process improvements to increase throughput, efficiency and quality
  • Support the installation, commissioning and optimisation of equipment and tooling
  • Develop and standardise operating procedures and working methods
  • Investigate and resolve process inefficiencies using structured problem-solving techniques
  • Implement robust and repeatable manufacturing processes
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement using data and shopfloor observations
  • Take ownership of issues through to successful resolution

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven Manufacturing Engineering background
  • Experience delivering engineering projects within a production environment
  • Strong project delivery capability combined with hands-on implementation experience
  • AutoCAD experience for layout review and analysis
  • 3D CAD experience (Creo preferred, equivalent packages considered)
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Ability to work independently and lead workstreams with minimal supervision
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

Desirable Experience

  • Material handling or containerisation experience
  • Capital project delivery experience
  • Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies
  • Experience within automotive, heavy equipment, aerospace or industrial manufacturing environments

About the Role

This is not a desk-based project management position. We are looking for a proactive engineer who is comfortable spending time on the shopfloor, engaging directly with operations teams and driving projects through to completion.

The role offers the opportunity to take ownership of an entire process area, identify previously unresolved issues and influence the direction of future improvement projects. You'll be joining a team where your expertise and initiative will have a genuine impact from day one.
