Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Support Assistant, or Youth Worker looking for a rewarding role supporting young people with additional needs?

Axcis Education is recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Weston-super-Mare, supporting students aged 11–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, challenging behaviour, and barriers to learning.

Key Responsibilities

As a Teaching Assistant, you will:

* Support students with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, and mental health difficulties.

* Provide 1:1 mentoring, classroom assistance, and small-group interventions.

* Build positive relationships that improve confidence, resilience, and social skills.

* Use de-escalation strategies and promote positive behaviour management.

* Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to create an inclusive learning environment.

* Encourage student engagement and celebrate progress, no matter how small.

About You

We welcome applications from candidates with backgrounds in education and other child-focused sectors, including:

* Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant

* SEN/SEND Support

* Youth Work

* Sports Coaching

* Care or Residential Support

* Behaviour Mentoring

* Police or Community Support Roles

* Family or Social Support Services

Essential Requirements

* At least 3 months’ experience working with children or young people in a paid or voluntary capacity.

* Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour.

* Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships.

* A calm, patient, and resilient approach under pressure.

* Commitment to inclusive and trauma-informed practice.

* An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
