Technical Clerk – 12 Month Contract
Location: Aberdeen
Our client is seeking a detail-focused Technical Clerk to join their team on a 12-month contract basis in Aberdeen.
This role provides vital technical administration support, ensuring project documentation is accurately recorded, controlled, and readily available to support workshop activities, quality processes, audits, and client deliverables.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing technical documentation workflows, including the accurate transcription of handwritten welding records into digital formats, preparing documentation packs for Quality Control (QC) review, and maintaining clear, traceable records. You will work closely with QC inspectors and workshop teams to resolve documentation gaps, improve filing processes, and ensure all records meet required standards.
Key Responsibilities
Accurately transcribe handwritten welding records into digital documentation while maintaining full traceability and compliance with client and regulatory requirements.
Prepare, print, organise, and coordinate documentation packs for QC review and approval.
Ensure all required signatures, approvals, and supporting information are obtained within project deadlines.
Maintain structured, secure, and audit-ready document control systems, ensuring records are correctly named, stored, and easily accessible.
Support QC and workshop teams by managing documentation activities and reducing administrative workload.
Review documentation for missing, incomplete, or inconsistent information and liaise with relevant personnel to resolve issues promptly.
Ensure technical records are complete and available for client submissions, project handovers, and internal audits.
Assist with improvements to document control processes, filing standards, and administrative workflows.
Promote accuracy, consistency, and best practice across all technical documentation activities.Skills & Experience Required
Previous experience in an administrative, clerical, or document control role involving data entry and document management.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately type and transcribe handwritten information.
Confident using Microsoft Office packages, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple documents and priorities effectively.
Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently with QC, workshop, and project personnel.
Experience working within an engineering, fabrication, manufacturing, or quality environment is desirable.
Knowledge of controlled documentation processes, audit requirements, and document traceability standards is advantageous.
Understanding of welding documentation such as WPS, WPQRs, weld maps, or inspection records would be beneficial.
HNC/HND qualification in Business Administration, Engineering Administration, or a related discipline would be advantageous.
