Transport Planner
Barnsley up to £34k DOE
Our client is a specialist transport company which are proud to offer excellent service to their customers and to their staff, job security, great working conditions and opportunities for progression within a culture that genuinely cares for its people. They are keen to recruit a transport planner to replace a long-standing employee who is retiring soon.
Reporting to the transport manager and working with a fleet of 15, 3.5t – 18t vehicles, you will be the main point of contact for route planning, collections and trunking and general operational issues. This is an office-based role working 10am to 6:45pm, Monday to Friday.
In detail, the duties of the transport planner include:
Planning deliveries and collections with vehicles and driving teams to maximise efficiency, revenue and service level.
Managing loads on the TMS system and liaising with customer service team over booking-in deliveries and handling customer queries or delivery delays / issues.
Assisting the warehouse team to ensure accurate capacity and loading of the vehicles.
Managing driving team timesheets, holiday requests and daily communications.
And of course, promoting and supporting Health & Safety and compliance at all times.
To be considered for the role of transport planner you will have the following:
Experience planning within a transport office – ideally at least 2 years.
Good geographical knowledge with understanding of tachograph and operator licence responsibilities.
Excellent communication skills, the ability to influence and manage team behaviour and performance.
Good IT skills, a positive approach and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

Salary: up to £34,000 p/a depending on skills, abilities and experience.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 10am to 6.45pm.
Holidays: 28 - 34 days p/a (20 plus stats increasing to 26 plus stats over time).
