Our client is a specialist SEN school supporting pupils aged 11-16 with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, communication difficulties, and cognition and learning challenges.

The school provides a nurturing, structured, and highly supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to develop confidence, resilience, independence, and the skills needed to thrive both academically and personally.

Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Chorley, supporting KS3 and KS4 pupils with a range of additional needs.

The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and wider school staff to support pupils both academically and emotionally, helping to create a positive and engaging learning environment where every young person can achieve their potential.

This role is ideal for someone who is patient, adaptable, and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities

Provide classroom support for KS3 and KS4 pupils with a range of SEN needs
Work closely with teachers to deliver engaging and differentiated learning activities
Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small group interventions
Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social development
Help create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
Support pupils in developing communication, independence, and confidence
Assist with implementing EHCP targets and personalised learning strategies
Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external professionals

Requirements

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is highly desirable
Understanding of needs including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and communication difficulties
Calm, patient, and nurturing approach
Strong communication and behaviour management skills
Ability to build positive relationships and support pupils effectively
Flexible and adaptable attitude to supporting learning and wellbeing
Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification desirable but not essential
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
