Precision Assembly Engineer (Optical & Sensor Systems)

Our client is a specialist manufacturer of advanced imaging and detection systems used in high-technology applications.
Due to continued growth, they are seeking a skilled and hands-on Precision Assembly Engineer to join their Operations team.
The Role - Precision Assembly Engineer
* This is a practical, laboratory-based engineering role focused on the assembly, preparation and integration of high-precision imaging components. The successful candidate will work with delicate sensors, fibre optics and optical assemblies.
* The role is ideally suited to someone with excellent manual dexterity, a meticulous attention to detail and experience working with precision assemblies in a laboratory, cleanroom or high-technology manufacturing environment.
* Whilst the primary focus is on precision assembly and production activities, there will be opportunities to contribute to continuous improvement projects, tooling enhancements and process optimisation within the manufacturing environment.
* Working within a small and collaborative team, you will play an important role in delivering high-quality products while supporting ongoing development of assembly techniques and processes.
Key Responsibilities - Precision Assembly Engineer
* Perform sensor window removal on delicate imaging devices using established procedures and specialised tooling - diamond cutters, lathes, mills etc
* Carry out precision sensor-to-fibre optic bonding operations, ensuring high levels of accuracy & consistency
* Assemble, inspect and handle sensitive optical, electronic and mechanical components
* Operate, maintain and care for laboratory equipment, fixtures and assembly tooling
* Conduct visual inspection and quality checks throughout the assembly process
* Identify opportunities to improve assembly methods, tooling, fixturing and workflow efficiency
* Support continuous improvement activities relating to optical bonding, sensor preparation and associated manufacturing processes
* Work closely with engineering and production teams to resolve assembly challenges and maintain production flow
* Maintain high standards of quality and health & safety
Skills & Experience - Precision Assembly Engineer
* Hands-on engineering, technician or precision assembly background gained through apprenticeship, HNC/HND or equivalent industry experience
* Experience assembling high-precision mechanical, optical, electronic or electro-mechanical products
* Excellent manual dexterity and the ability to work confidently with small, delicate and high-value components
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
* Experience working in a laboratory, cleanroom, production or precision manufacturing environment
* Ability to read and follow engineering drawings, assembly instructions and manufacturing procedures
* Patient, methodical approach to precision assembly tasks with practical problem-solving skills
* Good organisational skills and the ability to work independently
