Ocean Freight Coordinator - Birmingham - Up to £35,000
We are looking for a Ocean Freight & Customs Operator to join our operations team. The role is primarily focused on managing a key ocean freight project between the Czech Republic and the USA, while also supporting UK customs activities, freight pricing, and wider multi-modal operations.
Job type: Permanent
Shifts: Monday to Friday
Benefits:
Salary up to £35,000
Starting annual leave 24 days plus bank holidays and birthday leave (Up to 31 days plus bank holidays & birthday leave with loyalty)
Quarterly bonus structure
Hybrid working after probation (2 days from home)
Key Responsibilities
Manage door-to-door FCL shipments
Coordinate bookings, collections, and shipment movements with overseas agents and partners.
Check and manage shipping documentation.
Provide regular shipment updates to customers.
Resolve operational issues and maintain shipment visibility.
Complete job costing, supplier invoice checks, and customer billing.
Produce KPI and performance reports.
Act as the main point of contact between customers, agents, carriers, and suppliers.
Obtain and provide ocean freight spot rates.
Prepare UK import and export customs declarations.
Ensure compliance with customs procedures and regulations.
Produce Certificates of Origin, EUR1s, and other trade documentation.
Support general freight forwarding operations as required.
Maintain accurate records within the transport management system.
Requirements
Min 3 years experience in ocean freight forwarding with a UK based freight forwarder
Ability to manage shipments from start to finish (A-Z).
Experience preparing import and export customs declarations.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Self-motivated and able to work independently.
Confident using IT systems and learning new software.
Experience with cross-trade shipments.
