The Opportunity

A well-established medium-sized main contractor is seeking an experienced Estimator to join its growing pre-construction team in Kent.

Operating across a diverse portfolio of projects within the new build, healthcare, and education sectors, the business has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality schemes throughout London, Kent, and the South East. With a healthy pipeline of secured and upcoming projects, this is an excellent opportunity for an Estimator looking to join a stable and progressive contractor offering long-term career development.

Working closely with the Pre-Construction Manager, Commercial Team, and Operational Teams, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive tenders, assessing project risks and opportunities, and supporting the successful conversion of bids into secured projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for new build, healthcare, and education projects
• Review drawings, specifications, schedules, and tender documentation to identify project requirements
• Undertake quantity take-offs and prepare pricing schedules and cost plans
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers
• Assess project risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions
• Collaborate with commercial, design, and operational teams to develop competitive tender strategies
• Attend site visits, surveys, and pre-tender meetings as required
• Prepare tender adjudication documents and support bid presentations
• Maintain and develop relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and supply chain partners
• Maintain accurate estimating records and cost databases to support future tenders

Experience

• Proven experience as an Estimator within a main contractor environment
• Experience pricing projects across new build, healthcare, education, commercial, or public sector schemes
• Strong understanding of construction methods, procurement routes, and tendering processes
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documentation
• Excellent numerical, analytical, and commercial skills
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
• Experience working on projects valued from £1m to £20m+ would be advantageous

Qualifications

Essential

• Relevant construction qualification (HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent industry experience)
• Strong proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite

Desirable

• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline
• Experience working within healthcare and education sectors
• Membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS or CIOB
