Electrical Design Engineer Contract Opportunity | Hybrid Working | Contract Length: Until 01/03/2027

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to support the delivery of complex engineering projects from concept through detailed design, validation, installation, and commissioning.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly skilled engineering team working on technically challenging projects involving electrical systems, control and instrumentation, machinery safety, and engineering design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and development of electrical systems and sub-systems throughout the project life cycle.

  • Produce and review electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, bills of materials, and technical documentation.

  • Develop electrical designs for new installations, upgrades, modifications, and replacement activities.

  • Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, safety regulations, and quality requirements.

  • Perform cable sizing, load calculations, protection coordination, and electrical design verification activities.

  • Support design validation, testing, installation, commissioning, and handover activities.

  • Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers, technicians, and project stakeholders.

  • Produce technical reports, procedures, and engineering documentation as required.

  • Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Degree, HND, HNC, Apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Strong electrical design experience within industrial, manufacturing, automation, energy, utilities, or engineering environments.

  • Experience producing electrical drawings, cable schedules, bills of materials, and technical documentation.

  • Knowledge of electrical safety regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.

  • Experience with machinery safety principles and electrical system design.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar electrical design software.

  • Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, control systems, and engineering design processes.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Control & Instrumentation (C&I) engineering experience.

  • Functional Safety or Process Safety exposure.

  • Experience with electrical CAD packages such as EPLAN or SolidWorks Electrical.

  • Knowledge of BS 7671 and current electrical standards.

  • Experience supporting commissioning, FAT, SAT, and validation activities.
