An established and highly respected main contractor is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to oversee a prestigious £55m residential development in Hertfordshire.
This is a flagship project comprising a collection of luxury, high-end bungalows designed for discerning private buyers. The successful candidate will be dedicated to this single scheme, playing a key role in maintaining exceptional safety standards throughout the project lifecycle.
The Role
Reporting directly into senior project leadership, you will take ownership of all health and safety matters on site, ensuring compliance, promoting best practice, and driving a proactive safety culture across the project.
This position requires a visible, hands-on professional who is comfortable challenging when necessary, building strong relationships on site, and maintaining the highest standards of safety performance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all site health and safety activities on a major construction project.
Conduct regular site inspections, audits and risk assessments.
Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and company procedures.
Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions where required.
Deliver toolbox talks and support workforce engagement initiatives.
Work closely with project teams, subcontractors and stakeholders to promote a positive safety culture.
Maintain accurate records and reporting documentation.
Support continuous improvement across all health and safety processes.
About You
Minimum 5 years' experience as a Health & Safety Manager within a Principal Contractor environment.
Strong construction background with experience on large-scale projects.
Excellent attention to detail with a vigilant and proactive approach.
Honest, professional and confident in challenging unsafe behaviours.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Experience working on high-value residential or complex construction schemes would be advantageous.
Military or ex-forces background would be viewed favourably due to the leadership, discipline and safety-focused mindset often developed within those environments.
Qualifications
IOSH qualified (essential).
Level 6 Health & Safety qualification desirable.
