Vehicle Maintenance Technician
Dartford
£33,000 - £37,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 10:30am - 7:00pm
Requirement: Full UK Driving Licence
An established and growing logistics organisation is seeking an experienced Vehicle Maintenance Technician/mechanic to join its Vehicle Maintenance Unit (VMU) based in Dartford. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a professional team responsible for maintaining a fleet of trucks and trailers to the highest operational and safety standards.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with colleagues while also demonstrating the ability to work independently when required.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out fault diagnosis and first-line repairs on HGVs and trailers.
Complete repairs including lighting, lenses, mirrors, steps, curtain-sided trailer components, and similar maintenance tasks.
Perform Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) on trailers and other fleet assets.
Respond promptly to vehicle defects and breakdown issues presented by drivers.
Maintain safe working practices and ensure compliance with site health and safety procedures.
Support housekeeping standards to keep the workshop and surrounding areas clean, organised, and free from hazards.
Complete routine vehicle inspections and address minor defects before they impact fleet availability.
Conduct scheduled workshop checks and maintain accurate records for audit and compliance purposes.
Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
Monitor stock levels and communicate parts or consumable requirements to management.
Support the wider maintenance team with additional duties appropriate to the role.
Demonstrate flexibility in working arrangements to meet operational requirements.
Candidate Requirements:
Full UK driving licence.
Previous experience carrying out first-fix repairs on trucks and trailers.
Proven experience completing Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs).
Good understanding of commercial vehicle maintenance standards and legal compliance requirements.
Ability to identify faults and implement effective repair solutions.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Competent in using workshop systems and maintaining accurate records.
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Focused on delivering repairs efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
