Senior SQL Server DBA (Enterprise Scale) | Healthcare Technology | Technical Leadership Position

I'm partnering with a major US healthcare technology organisation that is seeking a Senior SQL Server DBA to operate as a senior technical authority across one of the largest SQL Server estates in the sector.

This is not a production support or ticket-driven DBA role.

The successful individual will play a key role in shaping the future of a highly complex SQL Server environment, driving platform modernisation, improving performance, and providing strategic database leadership across critical business systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead large-scale SQL Server upgrade and migration initiatives
• Own performance tuning and optimisation across high-volume transactional systems
• Design and enhance High Availability, Disaster Recovery, backup and recovery strategies
• Drive database architecture, scalability and capacity planning
• Establish and enforce SQL Server standards, governance and best practices
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues impacting enterprise-wide projects
• Partner with Infrastructure, Application Development and Architecture teams on strategic initiatives
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior DBA resources
• Evaluate and implement new technologies to improve platform reliability and performance

Technical Environment

• SQL Server Enterprise estate spanning ~1,000 database Servers
• Approximately 35TB of SQL Server data
• Systems processing 80,000+ transactions per second
• Large-scale, highly available, business-critical healthcare platforms
• Complex enterprise environment requiring deep expertise in performance, reliability and scalability

Ideal Background

• Extensive experience administering and optimising Microsoft SQL Server environments
• Strong expertise in performance tuning, indexing, query optimisation and execution plans
• Deep understanding of Always On Availability Groups, clustering, replication and HA/DR
• Experience supporting large-scale enterprise SQL Server estates
• Strong knowledge of backup, recovery, monitoring and capacity planning
• Ability to operate as a senior technical SME and influence architectural decisions
• Experience working within regulated, highly available environments is highly desirable
